Overview of DCOE

The Weill Cornell Medicine Diversity Center of Excellence (DCOE), located in New York City, builds on our institution’s long-standing commitment to diversity to now strive to reach a new level of achievement in the education/training of underrepresented minorities (URM) (African Americans and Hispanics) to become physicians.

We aim to increase representation in medicine through 5 objectives: (1) Expand our well-established middle school, high school, and undergraduate pipeline programs; (2) Enhance support for URM medical students by creating a nurturing environment that facilitates top performance in both culturally competent clinical care and community-partnered research; (3) Enhance support for residents and fellows to engage more URMs to stay in academics; (4) Expand faculty development programs to support URM faculty; (5) Generate new knowledge through our innovative programs, both in peer-reviewed literature to share our insights with other academic centers and directly for the benefit of URM and disadvantaged community members through a novel patient education platform.
